Open-ended Suggestions

In what way is an Open Ended Suggestion a form of Double Bind, how does it differ, how is it similar?
Create some examples for trance induction, therapy and everyday life.

An Open Ended Suggestion is a form of Double Bind, only more choices are possible.  still the choice is one which will lead the client towards the hoped for outcome.

An example of this could be a client seeking help for weight loss.

Over the next two weeks you might lose 1 pound, 2 pounds or even 3 pounds – I wonder which your unconscious would prefer?

Here is the illusion of choice – but again, at least one of the outcomes is implied.

I believe in some situations a straightforward double bind choice is more compelling for the unconscious, for example;

I wonder if your unconscious might prefer to lose 2 pounds this week or the next week?

The implied idea is losing two pounds – the bind is whether it is lost this week, or next week.

Trance induction –

As you relax even more, you could go deeper into trance in a moment or perhaps in a minute or two.

As your breathing deepens perhaps it could slow down even more, or just get deeper.

Perhaps your blinking could slow down or maybe your eyes could just close as you go deeper.

As you rest there, maybe you could relax more, or go deeper into trance.

While you’re breathing maybe you could notice the relaxation spreading more or the sound of my voice becoming more distant.

In the next few moments perhaps you could feel sensations of yourself floating or simply feeling heavier.

Therapy –

Will those feelings of confidence you want come back to you when you first begin to feel glimmers of apprehension, or after a few minutes?

Every day life –

I wonder if you will find and begin that new relationship you’ve spoken about so often wanting, this month or next month?
